Abstract :
For applications such as telecommunications where high availability is essential, zinc/air regenerative fuel cell technology offers a promising alternative to current methods of providing extended backup. This technology addresses the need for a cost-effective means of providing many hours of backup time in a relatively compact space, with manageable weight and zero emissions for indoor operation. This paper provides an overview of the operation and capabilities of zinc/air fuel cell technology in general and relative terms. It also discusses Metallic Power´s plans to commercialize the technology in the context of telecommunications backup power applications for which it is particularly well suited.
