Abstract
With this paper, we wish to present some important aspects to be considered when implementing an energy management solution for a rapidly expanding datacom operator (Utfors). Some major differences between the traditional telecom world and the new datacom world affect the implementation process. Some of these differences and their impact on the implementation process are covered. The energy management requirements were: possibility to have an overview of the installed equipment; visibility of the operational state (alarms, faults, observations) of the equipment; possibility to outsource the monitoring and maintenance of the equipment; and possibility to send alarms and observations to a third party, e.g. a co-location tenant.
