Abstract :
Prior to deployment of equipment within the telecommunications networks, the Telecoms community traditionally requires certain testing to validate the equipment prior to use. These tests are intended to demonstrate the compatibility, durability, operability and robustness of the equipment prior to deployment within their networks. These tests are just as critical for outside plant (OSP) applications as those are for central office. Expansion of Telecoms networks to include increased use of xDSL services has increased power requirements and the need for greater power reliability. Telecom operators have discovered the powering requirements for xDSL are significantly larger than their traditional POTS networks. This, combined with the once ON and always ON uses of xDSL services, has increased the need for reliable power systems. Testing of engine-generators for OSP applications present a unique set of requirements for both the Telecom operator and the supplier. This paper defines the tests and describes the results which lead to product changes.
