  • Abstract
This paper proposes a smart antennas system (SAS) to be added to the conventional 2-D rake receiver of the WCDMA. The main idea behind the proposed system is the beam forming of both the uplink and downlink according to the locations of sources or users which are being estimated by an efficient direction of arrival (DOA) estimator which covers the full azimuth range. In this way, the system will work as a spatial filter to reduce the co-channel and noise interference. An improved version of root-MUSIC algorithm is suggested to estimate the DOA information using N-elements uniform circular array (UCA). The proposed receiver structure is validated through simulations.
