Abstract
To guarantee the success of automatic switched optical network (ASON) management, some important factors, such as state of the network element and environment contexts must be taken into account. This paper explores a mobile agent (MA) approach to support ASON management. The mobile agents are created dynamically according to the demand and dispatched into the whole ASON network, and then integrated into the NMS, EMS and NE respectively. To verify the validity of approach, the whole network management system and its workflow based on mobile agent have been developed. It is shown from the result that mobile agents with particular characteristics can be of great help for managers on simplifying their work in ASON management.
