Abstract
In a coaxial gyrotron, a slow surface TE wave can propagate around corrugated inner conductor. This wave may have very high quality factor and strong interaction with electron beam. In some cases starting current of the mode is comparatively low and it could be exited. It is negative effect for high-power coaxial gyrotrons but it may be attractive to be used for a low-current higher-harmonic gyrotron with the surface leaking operating mode.
