Abstract :
The aim of this paper is to illustrate a proposed method of using modeling and simulation of a drilling vessel for the problem-based learning (PBL) project on marine informatics course at Newcastle University. Difficulties in teaching multi-disciplinary subject in the marine informatics course arise from the gap in experience and skill among instructors and students who have a different background in mechanical, electrical, naval architecture and marine engineering. A new curricula model that includes seminar sessions, weekly works and project presentations to provide holistic assessment on team works as well as individual contributions will be included in the PBL approach.
