Laboratory in linear integrated circuits: what should technology student learn?

Abstract :
A laboratory experiment is presented for applying an op-amp-based integrator and level detecting circuit in waveform generation. Students construct the circuits, review the integration calculus characterizing the circuits and observe the slew rate and limitations for several different op-amps. An explanation is given of how this experiment: (a) supports the classroom-taught theory; (b) allows for critical evaluation of the measurements; (c) builds up students´ confidence in accurate measurement making; (d) builds laboratory report skills; (e) provides the ability to observe the limitations of the devices from the collected data; (f) provides the ability to utilize data sheets thoroughly and not only for the pinout connections; and (g) instruction on how to use the application notes available from the manufacturer
