Abstract
A new approach to solving the VIE´s for a dielectric scatterer has been presented. The results indicate that the new formulation is computationally more efficient than the current standard. By duality, the results also apply to the case of a magnetic scatterer. It is shown how to extend this curl- conforming approach to generally inhomogeneous structures, in which caseone is able to obtain a system matrix which is halfway sparse, which implies a further reduction of roughly 50% in storage requirement as well as in iterative solution time, which is especially relevant, should a fast solver be employed.
