Abstract :
An overview is provided of erasable programmable logic device (EPLD)-based experiments on computer subsystems and systems. The author discusses the educational issues on digital/computer systems design. Computers with either parallel or serial internal architectures have been implemented using EPLDs and a static-RAM chip. The EPLD-based experiments have provided students with a good introduction to one form of ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) technology
