Abstract
Tactile sensors are normally covered with an elastic cover to protect the sensor from being destroyed by shock or chemical contamination. However, the cover greatly decreases the spatial resolution of the sensor. This effect is serious when fabricating a high-spatial-resolution sensor under 1 mm, even if the cover thickness is only 0.2 mm. In this study, this low-pass spatial filtering characteristic of the cover is analyzed, and the filter gain of spatial frequency for various kinds of elastic cover materials is calculated using the finite-element method. Preliminary experimental results are shown
