Abstract :
The author describes the recently introduced automatic train regulation system (ATR), which forms an integral part of the nonvital train control subsystem. ATR is a distributed processing system with microcomputer-based workstations providing the user interface. The workstations connect to a schedule regulation subsystem, either by means of an Ethernet local area network (LAN) or remotely over serial links. A gateway is provided to interconnect the ATR LAN to the existing automatic train supervision computer system. ATR includes algorithms to ensure that train movements are controlled accurately, during both normal and distributed operation, by adjusting platform dwells, interstation run times and terminus turnaround times. Other features incorporated into ATR include emergency help screens, performance monitoring, short line working, and energy optimization
