Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. The authors performed a power spectral analysis of the interplanetary magnetic field prior to ten shock events during the period 1978-80. Various plasma instabilities are produced by the compression of the interplanetary medium due to shock waves. Different spectral characteristics with periodicities from approximately 4*10/sup -4/ Hz to 6*10/sup -2/ Hz that have been produced by the instabilities have been studied for these ten events.<>
