Abstract :
A design approach combing the genetic algorithm (GA) with method of moments (MOM) is investigated for the optimal design of a high frequency (HF) broadband whip antenna. The load lumped elements and their locations are optimized simultaneously. Both a sample HF broadband whip antenna and its 1/3-scale model antenna are built and tested to verify the optimal designs. Communication experiment indicates that the performance of the broadband whip antenna outperforms that of the narrowband whip antenna in use for frequency hopping (FH) mode.
