Abstract :
It is envisaged that medical devices are now becoming increasingly common, user-friendly and portable. Recent research on biomedical device focuses on integrating advances in electronics and IT technology to brush up their functioning. This project is about phonocardiography on a PDA with a wireless communication function. The purpose of the project is to provide the PDA/smart phone and other type of palm PC users, especially those medical practitioners, with more flexibility and convenience to perform basic diagnosis on heart sound. The heart sound signal will be recorded by a electronic stethoscope, filtered through a signal conditioning circuit and is converted into phonocardiography for analysis. Digital signal processing algorithms are implemented to reduce noise and produce time/frequency domain analysis to help medical professionals make more accurate diagnosis. The data required can also be sent to server for archiving or remote monitoring via wireless link. A prototype of the system is developed and demonstrated in the paper.
