Abstract :
Range tracking loops are analyzed using the Mean Time to Loss of Lock (MTLL) criterion. This choice of performance criterion enables us to gain a completely new, meaningful engineering insight into the problem and to demonstrate the shortcoming of the application of the classical, minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion, which fails here because of the inherent nonlinearity of the problem. It is demonstrated exactly how increase in target manouvering is equivalent to an increase in jamming power.
