Abstract :
Free standing nanowires are produced from synthetic rutiles which are treated with NaOH at 500°C for 4 hours, followed by repeated water washing [1-5]. The samples are treated again with 40% and 50% of NaOH (leaching process). This is the critical part of forming the wire structure. Diameter of the wires from 20-30nm and length of more than 4μm are produced from this process. Products are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A possible formation mechanism of nanowires from synthetic rutiles precursor is proposed.
