Abstract :
This paper proposes an alternative to the problem of finding optimal paths in public transportation networks. The authors present a system architecture that has been implemented on the bus system in Boston using their new solution and completed for mobile devices. On user´s request the system proposes an optimal path to a destination and provides with alerts during the journey. To the best of their knowledge, it is the first planning system with the ability to respond to route updates in real-time. If there are changes due to user´s errors (user misses a bus, etc.) or service delays, an updated or a new route is offered.
