Abstract :
This work presents the characterization of an automotive alternator for its use in electric generation related with alternative energies systems. A standard truck alternator (28V 100A) had been chosen to make the tests, which was carried out in a custom adaptor attached to a 6 KW DC motor bench. The alternator curves families were obtained varying the rotor speed between 5000 and 12500 RPM, with field voltages from 0 to 28 Volts. The tests show that it is possible to obtain output power well beyond the machine nominal rating, making it a useful alternative for power generation systems.
