Abstract :
This paper deals with timing acquisition (synchronization) for ultra wide band (UWB) systems based on differential transmitted reference (DTR) receiver architectures. In particular, the paper represents an extension to multipath scenarios of our previous work [1] and aims at comparing the performance of two different search schemes (i.e. one- and two- step), by considering two verification mechanisms (i) returning false alarm and (ii) absorbing false alarm. The analysis of mean acquisition time (MAT) and overall detection (acquisition) probability (PD ov) shows that the proposed two-step scheme allows to improve synchronization capabilities (i.e. faster acquisition) while guaranteeing the same bit error probability (BEP).
