Abstract :
Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication is being used in a variety of domains from a car manufacturer´s assembly line to utility meters that measure a household´s electricity consumption. In this paper, we are presenting an approach that allows for enriching business processes using smartphones through an M2M communication paradigm. The presented approach is characterized by the following properties: ease of participation, ease of application development, security, real-time performance, ease of influencing backend business processes and technology/protocol agnostic interaction. These properties are achieved by combining the Ericsson Web Connectivity Enabler, the Ericsson Common Composition Core with the vBPMN Business Process enabled SAP backend system. The proposed solution is evaluated using a scenario from the logistics area.
