Abstract
Algorithms devoted to perform digital measurements in advanced instrumentation have sometimes to work with locally periodic signals sampled without an opportune signal synchronization. Errors introduced by this phenomenon are usually reduced and made negligible using a suitable signal windowing. When this solution is not available, circular sampling technique represents an efficient way to overcome the problem. The theory of circular sampling is analyzed in the context of the generalized sampling procedure. The relationships obtained guarantee that one and only one sequence satisfy the imposed sampling conditions. A device able to provide the sampling condition according to the above mentioned theory has been studied and designed
