Abstract :
An example of using the fuzzy paradigm in categorization/pattern recognition process is presented, emphasizing also that fuzziness is a useful alternative to randomness in dealing with uncertainty. In real world situations many experiences, occurrences, processes are non-deterministic, and the arising uncertainty is a natural and important component of human, social and technical systems. We try to demonstrate that in the cognitive process of categorization, to deal with uncertainty-with an important one, the fuzzy uncertainty-is a useful approach, and the uncertainty is an important component of the real word; and we have to cope with it, not to consider it as a "residual" problem.
