Abstract
This paper discusses the development of a wireless sensor network based target tracking platform. The platform involves ultrasound sensors for target detection and extended Kalman filter (EKF) for tracking a single target. The embedded application is implemented by TinyOS/nesC, and Lab view is used to develop the GUI. In order to optimize the energy consumption and to prolong the lifetime of the network, a scheme of tasking node selection is proposed, which provides tradeoff between target tracking precision and energy consumption. The experiment results validate the effectiveness of the tasking node selection scheme.
