  • Abstract
Despite the yearly decrease in the number of accidents involving liquified petroleum gas, carbon monoxide poisonings still occur at the same rate each year. This gave rise to an increasing demand for a system that allows direct detection of carbon monoxide. The authors explain the CO detector unit they have developed. The sensor is based on the catalytic combustion method, composed of a detection element and temperature compensation element. These elements are produced through the formation of a bead-like structure consisting of 5% Rh alumina catalyzer for the detection element, and only alumina carrier for the relative element on a Pt coil. The sensor has a built-in Pt sensor for temperature compensation. Theoretically, gas detection is possible because reactive heat generates from the oxidation of CO gas on the element surface when it comes into contact with the element, which raises the resistance of the platinum coil. The change in the resistance can be detected through a bridge circuit
