Development and testing of a prototype fault generated noise protection

This paper describes developments in the design and testing of the prototype hardware and software for a prototype fault-generated noise-based power system protection relay trial, including the design of the digital signal processing module (which forms a major part of the relay) and the associated analogue interface module. The paper outlines the work undertaken in the installation of the relay on the Swansea North-Pembroke 400 kV circuit together with a summary of its performance, to date, under service conditions
