Abstract :
Digital Television/Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting (DTMB) is announced as the Chinese Digital Television Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTTB) standard. In the conventional applications, all the transport streams (TS) from various programs are multiplexed in the level of TS packets. Therefore, all the programs should take the same interleaving, constellation mapping and channel coding, and hence the same quality of service (QoS). Moreover, due to the impact of convolutional interleaver, the receiver needs to be turned on all the time to obtain the designated data on the received signal. In this paper, the concept of physical sub-channel (PSC) for DTMB system is introduced and the method to support services with different QoS is addressed. Based on the two techniques, a novel approach to support multimedia services over DTMB system with the existing receivers untouched is proposed and evaluated by computer simulation.
