Abstract
Almost since its inception, radio technology has played a key role in telecommunications networks. Nowadays radio is used extensively in both core and access networks, particularly where mobility or rapid roll out is required. This paper presents an overview of the three principal applications of radio in telecommunications, namely core, distribution and access networks, and the principal factors influencing the choice of frequency and technology for specific applications
