Abstract :
A frequency-tunable dual-band planar monopole antenna for handheld terminals is presented. The designed antenna comprises two meander-line strips on a dielectric substrate. A variable capacitor (varactor) is serially attached to one of the strips, which can tune the resonant frequency from 1.9 GHz to 2.6 GHz, while the other strip keeps almost a constant resonant frequency of 3.5 GHz. The proposed antenna is suitable for wireless applications such as PCS (1850-1990 MHz), WiFi (2400-2484 MHz), 2.6 GHz WiMAX and 3.5 GHz WiMAX.
