Abstract :
The exclusion rule-based system, proposed in the paper, is an alternative method of designing a rule-based system for an expert or a control system. The starting point of the approach is the set of all possible decisions the considered system can generate. Then, on the basis of the exclusion rules, the set of decisions is limited to the ones permissible in the current state. A railway traffic management system case study is used in the paper to demonstrate the advantages of the new approach. To compare the exclusion rule-based systems with the decision tables both solutions are considered.
