Abstract
To reduce energy consumption and prolonging the lifetime of wireless sensor networks, effective methods are needed. In this paper, a hierarchical and multi-hop clustering algorithm is proposed to increase the lifetime of wireless sensor networks. This algorithm selects two cluster-heads for each cluster. In this algorithm, one of the cluster-heads is responsible for data collection, data aggregation and data transmission to Base Station or high level cluster-head. The other cluster-head is responsible for receiving data from low level cluster-head and forwarding them to high level cluster-head. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm increases the network lifetime more than 28 percent in comparison with LEACH protocol.
