Abstract :
A respiratory monitor was tested as a safety device for diaphragm pacing. This monitor used impedance measurements between stimulating epimysial electrodes placed on the diaphragm muscle and anodes placed subcutaneously on the thorax. Impedance measurements were assessed for indications of geometric changes in the thorax and detection of airway obstruction. The authors determined that impedance pneumography is a useful safety feature that could be added to an epimysial electrode diaphragm pacer
