Abstract
Summary form only given. The photoelastic and acoustooptical parameters of Cs2HgBr4 and Cs2CdBr4 crystals are determined on the base of study of the thermal expansion, optical indicatrix rotation at ferroelastic phase transition and direct piezooptical measurements. It has been shown that Cs2HgBr4 and Cs2CdBr4 crystals are good acoustooptical materials. The photoelastic coefficients of Cs2HgBr4 and Cs2CdBr4 crystals achieve values p44 = 0.12 and p44 = 0.2 respectively as well as acoustooptical figures of merit- M2 = 126.5 × 10-15 s3/kg for Cs2HgBr4 crystals and M2 = 366.9 × 10-15 s3/kg for Cs2CdBr4 crystals. Acoustooptical diffraction has been observed and studied experimentally in Cs2HgCl4, Cs2HgBr4 and Cs2CdBr4 crystals. From the studied range of transparency (∼0.32 μm-20 μm) follows that all three crystals can be used as effective acoustooptical materials in the wide spectrum range.
