Abstract
Reviews the design of FOCUS (Fibre Optic Controlled Underwater System) ROTV system. The range of applications of FOCUS which broadly fall into the categories of oceanographic, hydrographic and geophysical survey are reviewed. These applications include seabed survey, pipeline inspection, fisheries research, cable and pipeline location, physical oceanography, photographic surveys and geophysical survey. The first FOCUS system was the FOCUS 300 which was delivered by MacArtney A/S to the Danish Fisheries Technology Institute in 1989. Since then FOCUS systems have been supplied to Geoteam Ltd., Svitzer Britsurvey, Scantron Ltd. and Subsea Surveys Ltd. in the UK
