Abstract
Using an ultrafast optical technique, broadband surface acoustic wave packets are tracked on 1D and 2D phononic crystals in two dimensions in real time at frequencies up to ~1 GHz. The acoustic band structure is obtained from the data by means of a spatiotemporal Fourier transform. We find stop bands for both leaky longitudinal and Rayleigh waves
