  • Abstract
Recent advances in technology and motor control design have resulted in the use of electronic components in motor starters and specifically overload relays. The benefits of utilizing electronics in motor starters includes: enhanced protection against various types of faults, improved features, and communication between a programmable logic controller or other host control system and a motor starter. This combination of enhanced protection, improved features and communication provides users, especially in the process control field, with the opportunity to directly control and monitor process elements. Control and monitoring can provide warning of impending problems, minimize downtime, and improve process results
