Abstract
A supervisory control approach is used to ensure the safe and optimal operation of a grid connected wind power system. Its global hybrid dynamics may roughly be captured into a hybrid automaton to be controlled by means of a two level hierarchical control structure. The low level continuous controllers perform optimization tasks, specific to different operating regimes. A supervisor placed on an upper level must guarantee the safe transition from an operating regime to another, triggered by some discrete events. The supervisor is designed according to the supervisory control framework, its operation in the partial load region being validated by numerical simulations.
