Abstract :
In this paper, a dynamic model is presented to simulate the dynamic behavior of a proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell system. The PEM fuel cell system is used for powering a laptop computer. The power requirement of a laptop computer varies significantly under different operational conditions. The analysis and modeling of the PEM fuel cell system are verified by developing a detailed simulation software using the Matlab, Simulink and SimPowerSystems Blockset for portable applications. The PEM fuel cell model is able to operate at an ambient temperature (20degC) and pressure. The load voltage is adjusted using a PID controller system in order to maintain the load voltage at a desirable level under various operational conditions.
