  • Abstract
Flat panel displays (FPDs) have become one of the fastest growing electronics business sectors in the last few years. It is expected that FPDs will become a 20-40 billion dollar business by the end of the century. FPDs are currently being used in all laptop computers, many desk top systems, medical and industrial applications are being designed into new as well as being retrofit into existing military systems. They will appear in many new applications as costs decrease and availability increases. Key features of FPDs are compact size, low power consumption, and high color quality. This paper will describe packaging methods currently in use for connecting driver electronics to flat panel displays. Historical application of display interconnects will be covered as well as current technology and future expectations for technology development
