Abstract
Distributed video coding (DVC) was proposed to meet the low complexity encoding requirement, and it was verified to work more efficiently than H.264/AVC intra coding on video sequences with low motion. This makes DVC suitable for surveillance application. This paper presents a background aided surveillance-oriented distributed video coding system. A high quality background frame is encoded for each group of pictures (GOP), which can provides high quality SI for the background parts of the Wyner-Ziv (WZ) frames. Consequently, bit rate for the WZ frames can be reduced. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system can decrease the bit rate by up to 67.4% when compared with traditional DVC codec.
