Abstract :
Previously proposed noise and interference models are briefly reviewed, and the limitations of these models are discussed. A simple one-parameter model of noise and interference over wideband HF channels is then presented. An expression for the APD (amplitude probability distribution) of the model is derived. The underlying assumptions of the proposed model are discussed, and a simple model of spectral occupancy in the form of an APD is derived and compared with measured data. Finally, remaining questions concerning the implications of the model for time statistics and the dynamics of noise and interference are raised, and current progress toward answering these questions is presented
