Abstract :
The real time observation and automatic localization of needles, and more specifically of micro needles for guided surgery, is a delicate task that cannot be attempted with every of the well trained medical imaging techniques. Ultrasonic imaging offers an interesting alternative to the difficulties as it does not suffer the limitations. This imaging modality is real time for the eye and completely safe for both patients and physicians even of a very long time of use. The constant improvements of probes, of imaging sequences and of post processing have been continuously increasing the resolution and the number of ultrasonic techniques.
