Abstract :
Presents an epidemological study of the senior citizen population at a semi-urban area, 22 km from Madras. This study aims at identifying those with pain. This is the pilot study of an ongoing research on “Pain in the Aged”, with a sample size of 302 senior citizens. The site of pain, cause of pain, nature of pain, diagnosis and management are discussed. The pain is grossly classified as orthopedic and non-orthopedic pain. Diagnostic health status, socio-economic status, habits, diet, psychological status and treatment are discussed. The possibility of preventing pain is considered
