Abstract
The μMarx is an extremely compact (15.8 cm diameter × 52 cm long), very short-pulse, HV generator that is easily transportable using an optional battery pack. Repetition rates to 10 pulses per second (pps) were achieved with an ultimate goal of 100 pps. An 18.5-stage system produces an unloaded output voltage of 390 kV with 4 J of stored energy. The internal impedance is approximately 134 Ω. When coupled with a matched resistive load, the system produces 12-ns (FWHM) pulses with a peak current up to 2 kA.
