Abstract
Electrical distribution systems are evolving and becoming more flexible with the inclusion of more intelligent electronic devices (IED) and remote terminal units (RTU). This enables the optimization of the network operation giving the operator more information and control options. SCADA and DMS systems need to accommodate and efficiently process all the data and alarms and aid the operator in making the best possible choices in the lowest time. The criticality of the decision making process when operating an islanded system is even higher. This papers overviews the adequate technical architecture of a distribution management system for the Greek islands and details the essential functionalities required.
