Abstract :
A novel dual band low profile antenna for a laptop wireless interface is presented. The element has been developed to be integrated into a laptop screen cover rim. In spite of the large ground plane constituted by the TFT panel, the antenna exhibits almost omnidirectional properties in both operating bands. The two resonant frequencies can be tuned independently within a broad range ratio 1.2-3.5 without changing the patch external dimensions. The performance of the dual band ISM 2.4 GHz / UNII 5.2 GHz element is illustrated with theoretical and experimental results. A very good agreement between numerical simulation and measurement results validates the design procedure and confirms that the proposed solution meets the requirements of a multi-standard laptop integrated wireless interface.
