Abstract
Ground penetrating radars have shown increasing potential in soils or concrete diagnostics. The realisation of such a system and the interpretation of data produced by this technique require a clear understanding of the physical electromagnetic processes that occur between the media and the waves. We present a study of the performance of a step frequency radar as a nondestructive technique to detect hidden objects in building structures. This paper deals with some critical points, such as material properties, coupling effects between the antenna and the media and image processing
