Abstract
Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are a special type of Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) where static routers form an infrastructure backbone and provide connectivity and coverage to the mobile clients for data communications. Due to differences in overall network characteristics, routing protocols available for MANETs cannot be directly ported in WMNs. Several efforts have been made to modify MANETs routing protocols to fit in WMNs scenarios (eg. E-AODV, M-OLSR). These protocols improve some parameters however compromise on others. In this paper, we propose M-HRP, which exploits the advantages of E-AODV and M-OLSR. To evaluate M-HRP´s performance and suitability in WMNs, a comparison of the protocol with M-OLSR and E-AODV is carried out.
