  • Abstract
An ultrasonic focussed transducer for high power applications with higher efficiency and increased intensity is developed. Ultrasonic energy is absorbed in the backing material of the transducer element. The transducer utilizes the energy at the rear side of the transducer element. New approaches proposed are based on the method of the total internal reflection and reflection by an acoustic mirror. Novel focussed transducers developed have 50% to 90% efficiency more than that of the conventional ones. Hence, the transducers developed can be used more effectively for high power ultrasonic applications like lithotripsy or industrial cleaning etc
