Abstract
The motion powered hand held mine detector is a simple low cost system requiring no battery and minimal maintenance. It is intended as an `appropriate technology´ low cost solution that can be deployed and operated quickly, easily and reliably over sustained periods for the humanitarian application. This device has the potential for very widespread, high volume availability and indigenous manufacture. A prototype concept demonstrator has been constructed that makes use of three patented innovations: (1) a simple printed search head that provides detection and discrimination between different objects and materials under the ground; (2) a power supply incorporating an inexpensive motor-generator that generates electrical power from movement only; (3) special low power RF circuit techniques and technology that minimise power requirements
